Colombian Respirator Prototype Advances to the Next Phase

By Ruta N -

The EIA University, a member of the #InnspiraMED initiative, has announced that the mechanical ventilator prototype developed in its labs is ready to move to the next phase: testing on living organisms.

"We know there’s still a long road ahead, and our institutional commitment is to find a solution that can be used on patients, potentially saving many lives affected by COVID-19," said Carlos Felipe Londoño Álvarez, Rector of EIA University.

This is the first of three prototypes in the #InnspiraMED initiative—led by the Bioinstrumentation and Clinical Engineering Research Group at the University of Antioquia and Industrias Médicas Sampedro—to reach this phase. Upon successful testing, production of the ventilators will begin once health authorities approve their functionality, safety, and efficacy.

Currently, to allow development teams to focus on necessary designs and tests, no additional statements will be made. Updates will be shared via official channels.
