From July 25 to October 31, thousands of students from Medellín and the Aburrá Valley had the opportunity to access all available courses on Udemy Business, one of the world’s most renowned platforms for its extensive course offerings and large student base, completely free of charge.

During the application period, a total of 16,759 licenses were approved through Udemy Business, significantly surpassing the initial goal of 10,000. Out of these, 13,723 were activated, highlighting the enthusiasm and active participation of beneficiaries in acquiring advanced knowledge.

“Thanks to our partnership with Udemy in recent months, we fulfilled our mission of educating people and attracting talent to the IT sector, helping to close a gap that enables these individuals to improve their employability. In doing so, we’re transforming their quality of life, as well as that of their families and communities,” said María Isabel Sierra, Operations Director at Ruta N.

Beneficiaries completed 9,350 certifiable courses, covering a range from business skills or "power skills," such as investment, brand strategy, and innovation, to crucial tech skills like Python, JavaScript, cybersecurity, programming, and web development, among others.

Offering this program for free marks a milestone in talent development for the Fourth Industrial Revolution in Medellín and the Aburrá Valley. On the platform, courses start at around COP 49,000, with some costing up to COP 300,000. According to data from Udemy Business, the total savings from the 16,759 licenses and 9,350 completed courses amounted to $8 million.

“With the Udemy scholarships in partnership with Ruta N, I acquired technical skills focused on software development, cloud computing, and databases. These courses benefit people personally, helping them create their own businesses; professionally, by preparing them for new job opportunities; and academically, by obtaining more certifications that we students aspire to have,” shared Xiomara Flórez, a systems engineer and Udemy scholarship recipient.

Ruta N celebrates the success of this Tech Scholarship program and reaffirms its commitment to the growth and education of a citizenry with the power to create transformation. Connecting people with companies to enhance their professional development contributes to an improved quality of life, which is the corporation’s primary purpose.
