On March 5 and 6, 2025, Medellin welcomed a senior delegation from the World Economic Forum (WEF), an international organization based in Switzerland that brings together government leaders, businesses, universities, and communities to discuss and address global challenges.
Connecting Medellín with the WEF’s global network
On the first day, representatives from the WEF, the Medellin Centre for the Fourth Industrial Revolution (C4IR Medellin), Ruta N, and the Secretariat of Economic Development discussed best practices from the 22 Fourth Industrial Revolution Centres worldwide.
Through this dialogue, opportunities were explored to strengthen coordination with these centres and enhance the city's capabilities in technology implementation, knowledge exchange, and global connectivity.
Co-creation workshops for the future of technology and innovation in Medellin
One of the key moments of the visit was the development of collaborative workshops based on the WEF's 3C methodology (Community, Content, and Communications) focused on C4IR Medellin’s three strategic lines:
- FutuMed – Special Treatment Zone (STZ): An initiative aimed at establishing a space for experimenting with Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) technologies.
- GovTech: Innovation in the public sector to improve efficiency and citizen engagement through technological solutions.
- Artificial intelligence (AI) education: Training programs to foster knowledge and responsible AI use in the city.
A strategic meeting with the local government
On the second day, the WEF delegation met with the Mayor of Medellin, the Secretariat of Digital Innovation, the Administrative Planning Department, the Office of Strategic Projects Management, the Secretariat of Communications, the Medellin Cooperation and Investment Agency (ACI), Empresas Publicas de Medellin (EPM), and key players in the innovation ecosystem. During the meeting, progress was shared, and the action plan was strengthened with a comprehensive approach.
With this visit, the city marks a milestone in positioning Medellin as a leader in artificial intelligence and digital transformation in Colombia and Latin America, reinforcing its relationship with the WEF’s global network.
