Ruta N opened its doors to more than 600 visitors to showcase how innovation is built in Medellín
By Ruta N -Open House takes place on the last Thursday of every month at Ruta N’s headquarters.
Citizens, business leaders, entrepreneurs, academics, students, and international delegations participated during the first half of this year in Ruta N’s Open House, an initiative designed to bring diverse audiences closer to Medellín’s science, technology, innovation, and entrepreneurship (STI+E) ecosystem. Between February and May, visitors gained firsthand insight into the capabilities that today position the District as a leading innovation hub in Latin America and around the world.
“Innovation creates greater impact when people can experience it, understand it, and become part of it. Through the Open House initiative, we open the doors of Medellín’s innovation ecosystem to the public. At Ruta N, we continue to promote spaces that bring innovation closer to people and strengthen the District as a territory where knowledge is shared, ideas are connected, and opportunities are built collectively,” said Carolina Londoño, Executive Director of Ruta N.
Through guided tours and experiential learning activities, more than 600 people took part in Open House, an initiative that allows participants to learn about Ruta N’s history and Medellín’s strategic STI+E initiatives that are transforming sectors such as the economy, education, and business development. The activity is held on the last Thursday of every month at Ruta N’s facilities and aims to demonstrate how the different actors within the ecosystem work together to generate real impact across the territory. Those interested in participating in the next session, scheduled for July 30, can register at https://rutanmedellin.org/espacios/open-house.

“It is an excellent event. It helps us connect with the startup ecosystem. There are different programs that support entrepreneurs and their business ideas, helping them scale and connect with investors at both the national and international levels,” said Julián Díaz Arroyave, one of the attendees.
The diversity of participants reflects the growing interest in Medellín’s innovation ecosystem. In addition to representatives from the business sector, startups, government entities, and the general public, the event welcomed national and international academic delegations. Visiting institutions included the University of Edinburgh (Scotland), the University of Montemorelos (Mexico), the Autonomous University of Nayarit (Mexico), the ESPE University of the Armed Forces (Ecuador), the National University of Moquegua (Peru), the Technological University of Pereira, the National Unified Corporation of Higher Education (CUN), the Popular University of Cesar, EAFIT University, the University of Medellín, and the National University of Colombia, among others.
Through initiatives like this, Ruta N continues to open the doors of its home, strengthening the social appropriation of knowledge and fostering connections among citizens, academia, businesses, and institutions from different regions of the world. More than a guided tour, Open House has become an experience for discovering how innovation is transformed into opportunities, partnerships, and development for Medellín.
