Ruta N Hosts the 2026 Medellín Mayor’s Office Journalism Awards Ceremony
By Ruta N -The awards recognized the talent and stories of the city’s community, alternative, and independent media outlets.
On November 4, Ruta N hosted the 17th edition of the Medellín Mayor’s Office Journalism Awards, El eco del origen (The Echo of Origin), recognizing the talent, creativity, and commitment of alternative, independent, community, and citizen media outlets. The event celebrated stories rooted in local communities that help preserve collective memory, strengthen identity, and build social connections.
"These awards tell the stories of what happens on street corners, at neighborhood radio stations, and in magazines produced with limited resources and great perseverance. At the Medellín Mayor’s Office, we recognize those who tell the stories of their communities every day. Their work is part of this city's memory. We are also pleased to see students from four universities sharing the stage with media outlets that have been part of their neighborhoods for decades. This shows that journalism in Medellín has a new generation ready to carry it forward," said Carmen Herrera, Secretary of Communications.
This edition received 64 submissions from 52 media outlets, as well as entries from university students, who had an opportunity to showcase their work and offer new perspectives on the realities of Medellín. Students from Universidad de Antioquia, Universidad Pontificia Bolivariana, Universidad Católica Luis Amigó, and Institución Universitaria Colegio Mayor de Antioquia were among those who took part. Awards were presented in ten categories.
