Medellín Wins International Award in France for Ruta N’s Generación Tech Program

Ruta N’s Generación Tech program took first place at the IASP Inspiring Solutions Awards, presented by the International Association of Science Parks and Areas of Innovation (IASP), an organization that promotes knowledge sharing and recognizes innovative initiatives across these ecosystems. The ceremony took place in France and brought together finalists from Australia, Brazil, China, Colombia, Greece, Peru, Poland, South Korea, Thailand, and Türkiye.
Over the past year, Generación Tech has strengthened the STEAM skills (science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics) of more than 6,000 students and 600 teachers across 200 public and private schools in Medellín. Through learning experiences and hands-on projects, the program encourages scientific and technological vocations in the classroom and introduces children and young people to the challenges of the future.
According to the organizers, Generación Tech was recognized for its work in primary and secondary education to foster scientific thinking and STEAM skills among students and teachers, contributing to the development of Medellín’s innovation ecosystem. Second place went to Bilişim Vadisi (Türkiye) and The Athens Startup Business Incubator – THEA (Greece), for the Greece–Türkiye Hackathon 2024–2025. Third place was awarded to Melbourne Innovation District (Australia) for its Regenerative Futures Challenge initiative.
This edition received more than 60 submissions from 19 countries. A panel of experts selected the ten finalists, after which IASP members voted to choose the three winners. This recognition highlights the Medellín Mayor’s Office’s commitment to bringing knowledge into classrooms and preparing new generations with the skills to innovate, develop solutions to challenges in their communities, and drive the city’s economic and social development.
