The initiative offers virtual training for residents over the age of 18, entrepreneurs, and small business owners.
The District Government, Ruta N, the Medellín Center for the Fourth Industrial Revolution (C4IR), and multinational company Visa have announced an international partnership to provide financial education and business development training to 7.000 citizens.
Participants will gain access to the Practical Money Skills platform, where they will learn about budgeting, saving, credit management, and financial goal planning. The program includes more than 100 online modules, as well as videos, calculators, and practical guides designed to support informed financial decision-making in everyday life. Additional modules focused on business finance and financial education for children will be launched later.
“Ruta N is constantly connecting Medellín with the world, and for that purpose we work alongside the World Economic Forum and the Center for the Fourth Industrial Revolution. We seek to develop the talent being trained in our city and ensure they learn from the very best. That is why, in this case, we will work with Visa’s platform, which has already been implemented in other countries and will allow Medellín residents to access training through a world-class international platform,” explained Ruta N Executive Director Carolina Londoño.
This memorandum serves as a collaborative instrument aimed at establishing a partnership to promote financial education, strengthen business capabilities, encourage entrepreneurship, and foster inclusion.
The call for applications will open on June 2 through Ruta N and the District Government’s websites, and will be available to Medellín residents who have access to a computer or mobile device with an internet connection.
“We want to provide participants with the skills needed not only to manage their businesses more effectively but also to better manage their households. This is an opportunity to continue contributing to the economic and social development of our city,” said Medellín’s Secretary of Economic Development, María Fernanda Galeano.
Through this public-private partnership, Medellín continues to promote initiatives aimed at closing educational gaps and creating more opportunities that contribute to economic and social development.
“Without a doubt, Medellín is a city that breathes talent and inspires innovation. This partnership speaks for itself as to why Visa selected Medellín to replicate its digital skills training initiative, benefiting residents through practical financial education tools. This program has already been implemented in more than 200 countries worldwide,” said Cristina Müller, Head of Government and Regulatory Affairs for the Andean Region at Visa.
Throughout this year, the District Government, Ruta N, and the Medellín Center for the Fourth Industrial Revolution will continue strengthening international partnerships with organizations such as Visa, Google, and Amazon Web Services, among others, with the goal of connecting Medellín to the world and attracting more opportunities in science, technology, innovation, and entrepreneurship for its citizens.
